The biggest decision you need to make in comparison shopping for a home theater projector is whether you want to
purchase a Full HD 1920 x 1080 video projector to achieve the best high definition picture possible (the cheapest 1080p projectors start
around $2500 and go much higher), or sacrifice over half the resolution to keep the cost down and instead go with a 1280 x 720 projector. There are budget 720p projectors available for
under $1000.
Either way you decide to go, keep in mind that to get the best performance from
any front projector, you need to set it up in a room with as little ambient lighting as possible, or image contrast and detail will suffer. Look for home theater projectors with higher contrast ratios and brightness ratings (ANSI lumens). |
Home theater projectors lack most of the other components that are
necessary to set up a complete home theater system. You will need a separate surround sound audio system, and at least one or more high quality video sources such as a
Blu-ray Disc / DVD player, video game system (PS3 has a built-in Blu-ray player), and/or HDTV receiver to view HD and digital
television programming (projectors lack TV tuners).
Also, don't forget to leave enough room in your home theater budget for all the
necessary audio, video, and speaker cables you'll need to
properly connect it all, as well as a projector screen. You won't get the best quality picture projecting onto
a bare wall! |
